Ross Farm Museum

Today we ventured out to the Ross Farm Museum. It has been on our "to do" list for awhile now and it just so happened that a mom from the local homeschool group organized a trip. Perfect opportunity to see the farm and meet up with the local homeschool group for the first time!

We were happy to have Grandma and Papa come with us. They made it all happen by driving out from the island this morning to take us to the farm and join in the fun!

The Farm is a working museum. They raise animals, farm using organic methods, have a blacksmith shop, a wood shop, a cooper shop... and lots of other things that will have to wait for another trip... and you bet there will be! Fionna really wants to bring Wes out here!
The kids could choose between farm chores (feeding the cows, sheep and chickens), candle making, or working with the blacksmith...
Of course the younger crowd... chose farm chores...
Who could resist this face?
Fionna was in heaven... Dylan thought they were cute but was not too keen on sticking his hand anywhere near these munchers...
They were so cute and there were still quite a few that needed their yearly trim so we might get a chance to see them get their "hair cuts"... all by hand mind you... in the near future!
The chickens were great fun to watch.
So fancy. Don't you think?
Dylan was really loving the farm equipment and was taken by the little farm kitties that were roaming about... He told Grandma that she needed a white kitty at Sugar Camp. So cute!

Of course they use crop rotation so there were many fields of dandelions and tall grass to run through...

After the farm chores were finished we got in a great old wagon for a ride through the forest down to the lake...

After the ride we explored around a little more...
The wood shop was very cool with lots of hand tools. It was great fun to see...
Whenever I am in a wood shop it brings back great memories of my childhood. My dad was a wood turner after he retired from the military... so sawdust was a huge part of my childhood!! Still love it Dad!
Papa really wanted to go back to check out the Cooper's shop so we headed back down the road...
The Blacksmith's shop was nestled among some trees just beside the Cooper's shop...
The Cooper was very please to give a barrel making demonstration. And since we were the only ones there Papa could really pick his brain. I got to stay and listen while Grandma roamed with the kids in the forest. Amazing history of food preservation right here in this little workshop!

It was a lovely day at the farm. It was fun to meet other homeschoolers. The kids had a great time. And as always it was wonderful to hang out with Grandma and Papa.
Another "Must Do" when in Nova Scotia!

What a great experience - the farm is beautiful.

It would be so nice to slow down and lead a purposeful life for a few days - no cars, phones, etc.

Those chickens are really fancy!

this one wasn’t a working farm — but we visited one of those last year in kentucky!

We miss you guys too Kristen!! :)
Tara... I thought about that while we were there... all of our modern conveniences, which ones do we really need?
Lori... That is too funny! Spring is a good time for a farm visit... In this case it was fun to see all the new arrivals!
