Sunday we made our way out to Stellerton to the Museum of Industry. We have seen it off the highway on our trips to Sugar Camp but it has been closed on the weekend until recently. Finally we made it!
He was pretty apprehensive at first. The big train out front was a little intimidating...But the little train running around the tracks up high sold him and he was off and running...
Of course it was not all trucks and trains...
Of course it was not all trucks and trains... This miller is working hard recarving the millstone...
When I say Dylan was "off and running" I am not kidding. Going to a museum with an almost three-year-old and a five-year-old can be the ultimate test in patience if you expect to wander around and READ stuff...
So this is my new technique... Take pictures of the little info boards! Read all about it at my leisure!
This very cool train had a wooden boiler... Wes actually did read the info and said something about it being the first steam train in Nova Scotia... don't quote me on that... I did not get a chance to take a pic of the info!!
Although still timid Dylan finally warmed up to the big machines and touching this amazing piece of equipment...
These lathes were huge. (I took these shots with you in mind Dad!)
There were lots of little models around... most of them working. See the water... very fun!
This had Dylan completely hooked... a model train set... a giant model train set!

See the water... very fun!If we had taken the divide a conquer approach we could have taken shifts with Dylan planted right here for hours. As it was he spent lots of time pushing this little button to make the very cool steam train go round and round the track!
I could not get real close to the glass so great picture this is not but it give you an idea...
After that we were on to some heavy equipment... Can you tell the kids are excited about this part...
Dylan feeling the connection...
Dylan feeling the connection...He was just too cute for words about this...
This Shopmobil traveled around to rural areas to teach kids shop skills... Very cool!
Fionna driving the little engine...
A very interesting section on the textile industry in Nova Scotia...
How can you beat socks on display....
I especially liked this part...
You had to be serious about getting your hair done back in the day...

This was just super fun to take pictures of... I am not a super car fan but this was a beauty!
The engine that kicked it off...
Now Dylan is all ready to touch and experience things up close...
The boys say goodbye...

Another wonderful museum. I love Dylan stuck by the model train. That would probably be me :-)
And the hair salon looked like some kind of torture chamber *shriek*
Such great pictures and what a cool museum I love the Dylan feeling connection picture, so cute! thats a great idea about taking pics of the info, b/c it can be an overwhelming information overload trying to soak it all up with kids doing what kids do best ;D Thanks for sharing your day, i feel like I was there now!
Great museum trip! Heavy equipment, trucks and trains.... Owen would be in heaven :0)
I love the expression of wonder on Dylan's face.
Wow!! I've been wanting to go to that museum. Pass it a number of times a month, but have never gone in. It's only 45 minutes from the Farm. I sure would have enjoyed being there with all of you. You did a great job taking pictures. I almost feel like I was there. I'm going to have to stop in next time for sure.
Papa
Yes... this is a must stop when in Nova Scotia!
Papa... Next time we would love to met you guys there! Dylan has already aked to "go back to the trucks and trains museum!"
i love that kind of place -- and i am a super-nerd and have to read every word of every sign. ;^)
What a cool place. Kai would love those steam engines!
You guys are so lucky to have woods nearby for your children to explore! I probably should just create a mud pit in our yard (once and for all) for my kids.
What a museum there. I like the equipments especially this crane trucks on the side. What a creative idea in putting such like this.
